Got this book off ebay for 4 bucks. Montreal 1976 Olympic Sports Official Album. Full of history, images, great typography, great grid system and an old book smell.

Get the History of Graphic Design by Phil Meggs. it’s the only book you will EVER need. It’s dirt cheap for the 3rd Edition, but the 4th Edition looks nicer. And i think it covers 5 more years than the 3rd Edition.
Tonight I stumbled upon what is to become my new favorite blog. And yes, I do believe it trumps We Love Typography and The Dieline. I do confess to being a bookworm, although I admit to have not read that many books.
